Voted : Media is Controlled by Government
Ira's show is good. He comes on a 7PM where I am. Amy Goodman at Pacifica radio also puts out some stories that the corporate stooges brush under the rug. ballot #114299 Even though they seem to be ultra-leftist organizations, It's nice to hear a fair perspective on the low end of the radio dial.
Voted : Government does not control US media
none. i have made this point a thousand times. no nation can control the media any more. none. not even china. wake up! foreign media is rampant in this country. i can buy any foreign publication any day of the week. 2nd we all get cable, right? how many calbe networks carry italian news. russian news. korean news. british news. polish news. you name it. and for the climax -- hellloooo! the internet! just go to drudgereport.com and see how he links to news stories from germany, the u.k, etc. come on! control the media and news? not possible anymore, even if we wanted to.
and so you know, what has a huge impact on the news media in every country is the people -- some putz in the news bureau decides "the people don't want to know this" and so it goes. but to suggest that our government somehow influences our news media is ludicrous.

^Kevin is right on this topic^
Voted : Media is Controlled by Government
After a CNN interview I saw today, I'm inclined to believe this choice. Barbara Starr was chatting up General Petraeus in the aftermath of his visit to the Hill, and she lobbed him a nice little softball that basically planted the seeds of justification for invading Iran in the minds of the sheeple. Hooray Media! :P
^ well you obviously didn't read the ballot comments. you'd be wrong truth. just wrong. think about it and you'll see.
truth, does that mean we control the foreign press too? cuz i've been reading all about that scenario involving iran in the foreign press for a couple of weeks now. i guess we control them too

Not so much that the media directly controls the govenment, but that the media has the power to influence people's decisions in regards to the government.
I would suggest it might be more likely that the media is controlled or greatly influenced by big business and corporations, who choose to be supportive of the current American administration.
Voted : Government does not control US media
The government & media are both controlled by money, whoever's the richest has the control. Most media helps calm Most of the public's minds (not all of either but unless you're a total simp you can see the trend I'm talking about) I mean my fellow Americans are all convinced the future's gonna be a lovely cakewalk as long as we keep shopping and trust our government :p

I would say that is true somewhat, same with Canada, the Izzy Asper family controls Global, the Bell corporation, and is known to be biased in favour of Isreal...there is heavy editing as to what goes into Global. Of course there is the Internet, but CNN, Fox, NBC, are probably not directly controlled, but heavily influeced by either the government, like CBC, or corporations, like Fox

Kev, you're partially right, and I'm partially right. Big media, yes. Smaller media, no. Problem is, too many sheeple are listening to the big media. If they didn't, I daresay we wouldn't be anywhere near Iraq right now.
Voted : Government does not control US media
But lest we ignore a media that is very quick to "cascade" official reports and do far less "reporting on the facts" if they don't jive, we would probably not be in the predicament we are in right now...we can see the effects of media that is either right wing or left wing, and based on their "integrity," how the public can buy into whatever bias they choose to promote...
