No...
The 'ae' thing is sadly obscelescent. It used to be common in such words as 'daemon' (now more commonly 'demon'), 'mediaeval'('medieval'), 'aeon' ('eon'), etc, etc. So I'll always go with spelling 1 of 2 but I can't vouch for my daughter or her children. I wouldn't want them to stick with the archaic. I want them to live in the time they live in.
P.S. when I mention my daughter's children... she doesn't have any yet. She is only five....

ae was once part of the English Alphabet. It was a result of the blending of Anglo-Saxon, Swedish, and Frisian cultures. It was called the "ash tree," or aesc. I think it looks cool when drawn together. Apparently it has little or very remote connection to the Cyrillic Alphabet letter. I can't explain why. Probably used in very different words.

How I usually spell it. My browser agrees, or rather its built-in spell check does.
of course, this ballot may be completely out of touch where a third (1/3) of teenagers think "corn" is spelled KORN, and another (different) 1/3 think Machiavelli was a rapper.

I believe the extra a is more British.
