JENA 6 MARCHES, IS IT REALLY FOR CIVIL RIGHTS?

[+] serious ballot by LCD

these kids, whether they were justified or not, BEAT UP another kid to a point where they were taken to the hospital.

What are they expecting us to do, just set them free?

Civil rights marches in the 60's were based on Dr. Martin Luther King's teaching of non-violent protest. TV news coverage is comparing these marchers to the civil rights marchers of the 60's, that makes me sick.

so what do you believe should happen here?

assault and battery should be punished to the fullest extent of the law
law should take into account that someone else said/did something offensive
Marchers should go home, they boost Jena's economy, if they spent $$ there
Laws should be enforced more equitably
If the black boys are guilty, they should pay the appropriate price, punishment
Equal justice for ALL...

COMMENTS:
Voted : assault and battery should be punished to the fullest extent of the law
The actions of everyone involved on both sides has set the civil rights struggle back. The Jena six just prove that members of any race can violently attack with the same level of ignorance as any klansman. Lets show we have no tolerence for racism and punish both sides to the full extent of the law.

Voted : Laws should be enforced more equitably
I think it was about unequal enforcement of laws. One white guy pulled a gun on blacks with no penalty, a black juvenile was tried as an adult and so on.

Justice needs a major tune up here.

There's no law against being a racist. You can be as bigoted and as ignorant as you want. You cannot, however, violently attack someone because they offend you.

I agree, the violence that the Six applied was uncalled for. But you have to take the provocation into context. Nooses hanging from trees in Louisiana may not do much for most of you, but it does churn my guts.

The black marchers are overreacting again: blacks seem to support other blacks, no matter what they've done.
The Law applies to everyone, no matter if they're black or white or red or yellow or brown 'or polka dot'.
This incident merely provides an excuse for blacks to act up again.
Fun!

it churns my guts too.

the nooses incident should have been investigated more fully and immediately. if they have done so, indicating to the students that that type of behaviors are not acceptable, these conflicts wouldn't have occured, and perhaps other people would be in jail/suspended from school.

I hope if nothing comes out of this all the administrators of that schools as well as hte civils leaders should be shouldering blames along with the students in jail. however that does not excuse them. those who protest with this "Free Jena 6" picket are not doing anything beneficial to eliminate racial problems in this country, in my opinion.

LCD, I don't know if this is going on in your art of the Cosmos, but the request for people to show support for the Six by wearing black?

LOTS of Hispanic people here in Atlanta are doing that. And many are doing so unbidden.
