IN THE NEXT 1000 YEARS, WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE ODDS OF BEING CONTACTED..

In the next 1000 years, what do you honestly think are the odds of humanity being contacted by an intelligent alien race? (Yes, I know that today there are many abduction stories and photos of UFOs and so on. However these do not prove beyond a shadow of a doubt alien presence. I am referring to say, an big alien ship hovering over a city or radio message from another star system.)

None what so ever.
Very, very slim.
Not very likely.
Possible.
About 50/50.
Fairly likely.
Exremely likely.
Almost 100% certian.

COMMENTS:
Hard to say. If they're alien, their motives just might be alien to us too.

I have to laugh a bit when I hear people proposing theories as to why they don't 'land on the White House lawn' or why they do or don't do this. It's a little like judging the personality and M.O. of someone you know nothing about.

If they contact Earth, I think it would be more like 10,000 years.

I think there is life out there, definately. I just think, like humans, they are contemplating being contacted someday.

Everybody wants to be asked to dance. But nobody wants to do the asking.

Had this discussion in one of my yahu groups. My thought on the matter is that any intelligent life out there, after seeign what's going on down here, has marked Earth in the Cosmic Fodor's Guide as "Just keep right on past..."

0%. I would be willing to entertain the idea of microbial life elsewhere in the universe, but that's as far as I'm willing to go.

What Nate said. Radio waves spread out in all directions. If intelligent life exists, we would have picked up SOMETHING by now, whether they were trying to contact us or not.

If they pick up any American television off of a satellite signal, my guess is that they'll keep right on moving.

Considering how many billions of galaxies there are out there, and how large the electromagnetic spectrum is, I'd say the odds of us finding that needle in a haystack is pretty slim. More like finding a needle in the Pacific ocean. Or worse.

If they even use radio.

With all those radio telscopes pointed upward. And nothing! Unless the aliens have a life span of 100's of years, the chances are slim that something out there can reach us.
