Voted : Southerners are more friendly
Having the perspective of being Yankee by Birth, Southern by the Grace of Deity, I have to go with Option 1. Travel well! And do *not* speed while passing through Jawja. We're short on water here, and having to truck it in costs big moolah. I'm fairly certain that the State Patrol is going to make up for the shortfall in tickets...

And then there's the not-so-hospitable South: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3H6szqauvg
So you might want to think twice about painting hippie slogans on your bus lol!
Voted : Southerners are more friendly
Both are friendly from what I've seen on my travels. Both have their nice people and assholes just like everywhere else. But that specific brand of southern hospitality is hard to find in other places. By the way, which route are you taking? And have a safe trip.
Voted : Southerners are more friendly
Yeah and the foods better.
Oh, and a little tip when looking for good places to eat. The more 18-wheelers (or log trucks) and the more pickup trucks (local cars in other words) you see, chances are it's a better place to eat. And don't let the looks of the building discourage you. Some of the best homecooking places look like crap on the outside.

But they also want ya to wrk man lol. Have fun.

Voted : Northerners are more friendly
When I was in the Air Force, I was stationed in Mississippi. And my Ex-Wife is from Alabama. (Although she has no bearing on my answer.) I have found that there are more friendly people out there in the U.S. than there are 'less-friendly'. But southern people tend to be more outgoing to some one, once they seen you more than once. Like say you were introduced by someone they knew.
"But they also want ya to wrk man lol." by fivenotes lol Nah. Only if you don't have enough money to pay for that chicken fried steak you've eaten. Another tip, LCD: Be sure you have enough money to eat on. lol Also, wear a CAT baseball cap. If you look enough like a local, chances are they won't stick you with the 'out-of-towner tax'.
Voted: Safe Journey! Now you be careful drivin' that bus now ya hear?
haha - when i first moved to Virginia from Pennsylvania, a fellow Yankee, who had been living here sometime, told me "southern hospitality stops at the Mason Dixon line". However i have not found a lot of difference really, what i notice more is that people in rural areas are initially more friendly.
