ARE SKATEBOARDS BEING BANNED IN YOUR TOWN?

Recent news stories report that towns a getting fed up with nuisance skateboarders downtown. There always in the way on sidewalks, in front of stores, skating on PRIVATE PROPERTY and damaging it, and causing traffic hazards.

Some towns have resorted to banning skateboards altogether downtown.

My own experience is that most of these kids are braindead and don't realize the problems they are causing. It's "hey man, we're just skateboarding and having fun, we're not hurting anything." Duh! They're Clueless!

It's not skateboarding that's the problem, it's WHERE THEY CHOOSE TO DO IT! In parking lots, road shoulders, sidewalks on Main Street, and doing there tricks on handrails and stairs.

The kids don't seem to get it, I would support a ban.

I agree, wish we'd ban them in El Paso.

They're not banned in my town (that I know of). Probably because I don't think I've ever seen one skateboarder. It's just not that popular in the community here.

A couple of larger cities near me though have banned them. And with good reason. The kids on them will nearly run over you when walking down the sidewalk. There are a few good ones who will actually pick their boards up and walk in crowded areas. But the majority that I've seen have this "I own the sidewalk, get out of my way" attitude. That's evident by their response when they run over you... not a word from them in appology, just a hateful look.

Though they are being cracked down on here in Atlanta. Lots of skateboard parks are being built, to draw kids away from skating downtown.

The city of Corpus Christi finally got around to building a skateboard park down on the bayfront within the last year. I used to go there with my daughter to watch the kids skateboard. She was a sk8ter when she was in high school. Now that she's in college, she thinks she's too cool for skateboarding.
