Though I have considered it a few times, responsibility is something that sometimes bestows experience. And the people in question who were almost the beneficiaries needed that more than freedom.

It would serve no positive purpose whatsoever. When fact becomes known, and it will, both of you would wind up in prison. Also, your "loved one" might commit the crime again, and this would be one of the tip-offs that might convince authorities you are not the guilty person. What a hellacious mess you would have created.
