Often you hear people say "I wish I had a $Million dollars." Is a Million dollars even a lot of money any more? There are a lot of people who make 4 times that a week, so how is $1 Million a lot of money any more? A really great house costs at least $5 - 10 million, so with $1 million, you can't even buy a good house. So how much money is a lot?

$1 Million is a lot
$5 Million is a lot
$10 Million is a lot
$15 Million is a lot
$20 Million is a lot
$50 Million is a lot
$100 Million is a lot
Anything over $100 Million is a lot

A lot means "a lot": "A lot of pancakes." Note that this is an informal expression.

Allot means "to divide" or "to give out": "They allotted six square feet per family."

Alot means nothing, and therefore is not to be used under any circumstances.

How privileged we all are to live in places where this question is seriously raised. A million dollars is an incredible amount of money. Anyone with so much money that they would say otherwise should think about spreading the goddamn wealth.
