It's a tough tightrope to walk, really. Growing up, I never had much in the way of intimacy from my family, and I tried to overcompensate for the loss in the first few relationships I formed with women. Needless to say, overintimacy didn't fly well with most of them. Now, even in my casual relationships with women, I try to keep distance, not to impose overmuch.

Too much can be cloying, IMO.
