...The U.S. Constitution in a National emergency or crisis ? Or, do you think this couldn't happen in the United States ? I recall the run-up to the last Presidential election, and the color coded threat alerts which seemed to imply we were on the brink of another 9-11 type of attack, and the constant parade of officials warning and reminding us to be vigilant while we were being patted down at the airports...it seems breaking the law and recruiting large companies/Corporations to do likewise in the cause of protecting the Country has become acceptable in a time of "war"...we are currently watching (at least two) world leaders (one in South America and one in the Middle East) make Constitutional changes, suspend Constitutions to make it legal for them to stay in power...and at least one of them wasn't even elected in the first place...then, there's this President who purportedly said, (about the U.S. Constitution) "It's just a goddamned piece of paper" (Sat, 10 Dec 2005). So, depending on what could or may occur, do you think that scenario could happen in this Country ? (for our own good I'm sure we would be told...)

The President has inherent powers to dowhatever to protect the people
The President most important mission should be to uphold the Constitution
He could suspend parts of it, but not a Presidential election
As long as I'm safe, I don't care
Yes, it could happen here
No, it couldn't happen here

Voted : The President most important mission should be to uphold the Constitution
The Constitution allows suspension of writ of habeas corpus "in time of invasion or rebellion." I think that's enough.

Constitutionally... No. However, FEMA was designed to do just that.

No, but his "handlers" have the power.

To answer the question officially, the only "inherent powers" the POTUS has (pausing to hear xaman chuckle at that!) are written down in a certain "g*ddamn piece of paper".
