if they are serious about getting us to drive gas efficient cars, they should make drastic changes in law to make it safe for those drivers. tractor trailer ban during commute hours, 55mph limit for SUV drivers, and right hand lane only rule for those who drive anything more than a midsize car. when that happens I will buy a small hybrid.

I've done my fair share of driving long-distance, and most of that has had to be in rental SUVs. I don't feel any safer in those.
'stupid idea. European drivers can't be compared to American drivers.'?? You sure you didn't mean 'comment' in place of 'idea' there? Have you ever been to Europe? Here's a translation in British. We drive on motorways and dual carriageways everyday even in cities, alongside with HUGH HGV's (Heavy goods vehicles)at 75mph. We drive alongside with drunken drivers, distracted cell phone using, McDonalds eating teenagers. Anyway, if a tractor trailer went across ya, there's not a car in the world which would save ya. In answer to your question though, NO, I wouldn't drive one. Embarrassment would be one reason.
Smarr Car. That is new to me.

Truth and Britvic's got a point. You can't really discriminate according to type or size of car because it's not the cars fault. It's the driver. I've seen more than my share of 'mean tractor trailer trucks', 'evil SUVs', and 'idiot 2 ton farm trucks' jack-knifed, flipped, totaled, and people in them killed by the carelessness of people in little matchbox size cars.
well, personally I have been in an accident in a small car, and I have seen a semi tractor full of gravel cross 3 lanes of traffic and crash recently. It's a simple physics. When a 5 ton vehicle hits a 2 ton vehicle, the 2 ton vehicle will be subject to forces that the bigger vehicle will be spared. not to mention the bumper of the heavier and higher vehicles will hit the most vulnerable point of the smaller car, if it's hitting the side of it. Personally, I don't want to drive a small car. There are too many idiot drivers out there, and unless the government makes drastic changes to keep us safe, the smallest car I will drive will be my crown vic.

It's also simple physics if you hit a mouse on the head with a sledge hammer you'll kill it, hit a dog on the head with a sledge hammer you'll still kill it. :o)
I get your point though. There is certain circumstances where being in a bigger car is safer.
