However, two other recent presidents also had similar popularity ratings towards the end of their terms in office. These presidents were Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter. Despite all of their faults and problems in office, both were able to rehabilitate their image with the public. With Nixon, it was his focus on foreign policy expertise, interviews with David Frost, etc that gradually helped him gain some favor back with the public. With Jimmy Carter it has been his work with Habitat for Humanity and numerous other international peace efforts. While people may not have changed their mind about having either as president, they have been successful at improving their image with the public. As George W. Bush is highly unlikely to exit the presidency with high approval ratings, will he ever be able to rehabilitate his image with the American public? (This is a snapshot poll.
