COMMENTS:
These are great commercials.
LCD, what's your issue?
That was supposed to be: What's your issue with the Military?
I won't answer this, but I'll pass the link on to friends of mine who are in the Corps. Their opinions weigh far more heavily in this than mine.
It's just like every other company that pays for Ad air time on TV. All Ads are geared to show the product in the best situation possible. A company that sells wine is not going to put a bum with a wine bottle in their AD. A company selling clothes are not going to put 'ugly' people in their AD. And when was the last time you got a burger from a fast food restaurant that look as good as the one they showed on TV?
What patch said. What is your issue?
What UncleRandy said. It's called advertising. You'll never see Peace Corp commercials that show them with military escorts because they get shot at either.
my issue is that they are brainwashing little kids into joining, without fully letting them know what they are signing up for.

I think they know what they're signing up for. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. Those who don't have the sense enough to know that they could wind up in the battlefield are usually denied entry in the first place due to severe mental retardation. The husband of my niece recently thought of joining. Basically so he wouldnt have to get a job. He actually didn't consider much the fact that he could very get get sent off to Iraq after basic training. He's not retarded, he doesn't suffer from brain damage. He's just one of these that has a self-important "it'll never happen to me, they'll never send me off because I'm too smart to be a grunt" attitude.

That's the recruit's problem then. Taking advantage of a person's ignorance and/or situation is the oldest trick in the book.
What's the deal? Whenever I see footage of men in the military peeling potatoes, they are using these little dinky knives. COME ON! If they'll pay $600 for a hammer, you think with all of the cutting-edge technology they have access to, they could at least get thos guys a proper peeler to do their jobs. Next thing you know, they'll be scrubbing floors with toothbrushes. And some kevlar body armor would be nice too. I wonder where that $12 billion goes every month...
Beelz, there's an old joke. "What's the fastest way to make a Marine angry?" Ask him/her who signs their paycheck. (SecNav, BTB) Marines have long been the red-headed stepchildren under the Navy umbrella. Most of the Navy's money goes toward the big, flashy projects that sail, and the Corps has had to make its own way, hence one of their battle cries, "We don't plan- we improvise!" Many of the gizmos the Corps uses are in-the-field inventions.
