WHY IS IT SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE TO GRIEVE OVER A HUMAN FAMILY MEMBER . . .

. . . but when it involves the death a beloved pet, you are considered a bit nuts, 'over the top,' or you have 'other issues'?

I've gotten this attitude mostly from family members; however, I've been too shy or ashamed to share my feelings with more than a couple of friends.

I don't know.
You ARE nuts; pull yourself together.
I understand, and have been there myself.
Most people have NO compassion

I'm having a terrible day.

I lost my best buddy of 12 years, my dog Buddha a few months ago. The whole family took that pretty rough even though he was pretty mean to everyone besides me and my mom. I was the only person in the world that he would let pick him up. I still miss him every day, but we got a new pup to help fill the void and to make her own place in the family. Don't be ashamed to grieve over a pet, in my experience they have generally made better friends than other people. Hope your day starts looking up Mojo :/

I don't get that, either. Loss is loss. It hurts without regard.

Don't blame yourself for loving someone so much. That a great quality in a person that's harder to find these days. Your family doesn't seem to understand your loss, but some of us do and support you completely.

I hope we can make your day seem a bit brighter. 006

I don't get it either, i would grieve over my cats if they died...when they die, especially Thomas because i've had him for about 10 years!

I know how you feel056

I have had a few pets that have passed on, also.

This is 100% true.
I can't say that about any particular family members but this is what I've noticed lately about my fellow humans.

I had to have my cat put down last year. He was 16 years old and very important to me. But I still miss him every day. I treasure my memories of my time with him.
