Let's say people you know are doing stuff but they overlook a few things so you inform them of it and they see you're right so instead of fixing what they wanted to they say they can't afford it now since there is more to be done than they had planned on.

Now when you are around them they are all pissy and negative towards you. So WTF is up with that? If they had only done what they were doing it would have been ruined in no time by the overlooked things. So in fact they just saved lot's of money but they are all pissed off anyways.

You should shut your mouth. Let them screw up.

When dealing wityh my family, I've adopted this as a fized rule-of-thumb. You can lead a horse to water, the old adage goes. When they're wearing the fecal matter on their faces, say nothing. Merely offer them a paper towel and go away, to grin in private.
