SHOULD POLICY BE BASED ON FACT OR IDEOLOGY?

I read an article by Scott Ritter in which he comments on the recent NIE report that concludes Iran is not currently developing a nuclear arms program. He agrees with the report and says that the 16 independent intelligence agencies came to the same conclusions as did the IAEA - that Iran poses no imminent threat regarding WMDs. However, he postulates that it doesn't matter what the facts are, as the Bush administration is bent on an ideological policy of regional transformation in the Middle East to mesh with American interests, independent of the realities on the ground. The administration will create any argument to justify its objective, he says, usually centred around the "terror" motif. It worked well in the lead up to war in Iraq.

So, do you think policy (foreign policy specifically) should be based on fact or ideology?

actually on cnn this morning, the under secretary of state for coling powell said that this administration had a policy of "we don't speak to our enemies, we change them." what arrogant tools. this is why the usa is so hated right now. the sooner bush and cheney fade away, the better.

Kev, I don't have to take the man personality-wise. As long as his facts are credible.
