* and buyers are being bilked out of their hard-earned money by a monster ad machine. Also, the people who mine the diamonds are treated like slaves (often children), and the people who cut the diamonds are paid a pittance.
Women, diamonds aren't ANYONE's best friend, and often even jewelers can't tell the fake from the real thing.
