advice : DO YOU FEEL OBLIGATED ?

When someone buys you a gift, do you feel obligated to buy them one in return?

I'm having this thought about my Saudi Prince, actually he's an architect not a Prince and I didn't mean he's mine in a gay way, not that there is anything wrong with that , although in Saudi Arabia I think you get your head chopped off for such things.

I can't purchase anything near the cost of what he got me, not only that, I have no clue what he would need, the logistics of getting it to him , he doesnt even celebrate this holiday , although on his note he said Merry Christmas , would me sending him a gift offend him?

What do I do?

I don't know that you need to feel obligated and chances are you might offend him... There might be cultural differences in receiving or accepting gifts that we are unaware of -

Maybe the best thing to do is to thank him sincerely for the gift and to leave it at that, for the time being.

^ yeah, I don't usually either, but other reasons why it might not even be practical for me to send him a gift. I don't think he expects one in return, it was a nice thing he did and I'll make sure as Mithrandir said, he knows how much I appreciate it.

lol, just don't invite him over for a quickie, unless you are working with the "dateline:predator" program.

find out what holiday he celebrates, and get him something locally that they can't get over there in the middle east.

larry i think you should thank him and come right out and ask him. maybe there is something he wants that is not easy to get in saudi arabia (like a fair trial? ;)

lcd makes an excellent point that there may be a holiday he does accept gifts on and getting him something locally might be the best thing.
