These missing e-mails may uncover information related to, among others, the management of Hurricane Katrina, the firing of US attorneys and the leaking of Valerie Plame's secret CIA identity. However, the Presidential Records Act requires that all White House e-mail be saved. The White House has refused to turn over information for records on the missing e-mails following requests made according to the Freedom of Information Act. Subsequently, they have been sued by the National Security Archive and by CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) in order to force to them to release the information. As well, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is looking for information on those records. The question is now whether the e-mails were destroyed or not, if so why, and if not, why have the contents not been released to the legal authorities following legitimate legal action.
