DIRECTIONAL SIGNS IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES

It's not an uncommon sight for me to see, but this morning for some reason I took special notice of the Voting signs that were posted. At all voting places there were many big signs directing people where to go to vote. The languages represented were English, Spanish, Korean and Chinese. That's pretty common though, as almost all signage for directions, how and who to call in an emergency, etc., are in those same languages in NY.

Does this bother you? Do you think the signs should only be in English? Please explain your choice with a comment as well.

Almost all second generation immigrants learn English, so I don't see the harm.

but what about other languages? Swahili, german, russian, japanese, etc.

how about just a little ballot box pictures representing voting? that would be universal.

I guess you'd first have to find out what a good image would be and if it were universal, you'd probably have to spend a fortune promoting to everyone that the image meant "here to vote." I think the signs did have a picture on them? Can't recall. But that's another issue. If I can't recall what that image is, what does that say.

As for the other languages, I think it is fair to consider what your major population demographics are. For example, in a small town in the Midwest, I can't see them having it in any language but Englis and Spanish. But I do know from a book that in Ohio, they used to have the signs in German too.
