Some of these people never think of the future. They only live for the folly of the moment with no concern for tomorrow. And these will be the later adults, whose cancers and other ailments from the abuse they are doing to their bodies today, who will be one of the major drains on our health care system. Even then they will assume no responsibility what they've done to themselves or others.

Nope, I disagree. Smoking can be enjoyable. In fact, I'm going to roll one right now (admittedly, rollies don't have quite as much filth in them as cigarettes). But as a lifelong rock climber I'm probably fitter & healthier than a lot of sedentary, burger-munching non-smokers, lol!

Whoever had that grand thought initially, IMO, should be mailed a copy of "Final Exit" post haste.
A cocaine buzz sans cigarette would be uncivilized.
I can understand being addicted. It's just that the buzz/damage ratio of nicotine cigarettes is so low that I'm hard-pressed to find a reason why people would want to start in the first place. I tried it once and thought "What's so great about this stuff that it makes people want to kill themselves?" So I figured it must be primarily a social ritual thing. I always was completely blind to that stuff, that's one aspect of Asperger's that actually helped me.
^ In a word - spliff ;-)
Asperger's, whatever. Do what makes sense. Most people I know that smoke want to quit but don't know how.
