ACCOMMODATING RELIGIOUS CUSTOMS

[+] serious ballot by patch22us

There is this Deli I've been going into for the last year. I go in the morning usually because they have this really good Yogurt Parfait. :)

The owners are Muslim. They're from Lebanon.

The other morning, a heated argument took place between this man next to me and the Deli workers and the owner. This man wanted something cooked on the griddle (not sure what) and he asked the deli workers if they cooked bacon or ham on the griddle. They said yes. So the customer said "can you please prepare my _______ (I think it was an Omlet) away from any bacon or ham and clean the griddle first." He asked that they just use oil.

The Deli workers became agitated and said they were busy, which they were because the place was mobbed. So the customer got agitated and demanded the owner come out. He did and the owner sided with the Deli workers and told the customer they were too busy and making too many breakfasts to do all that for him. The customer was clear that he is Muslim and that it was he could not eat Pork. There was yelling.

Do you think the Deli was wrong or right in this instance?

The Deli owner was right
The Deli owner was wrong

Voted : The Deli owner was right
If they were busy and that was actually the reason, I don't have a problem with it.

right of course, why should the deli owners have to accomodate one man? Just because it was NEXT to ham and bacon?

P.S. This Yougurt Parfait they make is incredible. It has 2 flavors of yogurt, strawberries, rasberries, bananas, nuts, honey and I think Kewee? Anyway, it's out of this world. Just so you know why I go in there all the time.

I think he was right too. He's a super nice guy. I think if the place had not bee so crowded, he would have obliged, but it was packed, so I think he was just being logical. It was just an interesting situation, since both are Muslim.

This is a free country, right? The customer has the choice to go elsewhere.

Interesting ballot. Wish I could give you karma. +5.

The owner was not right in being abusive. But he did have the right to refuse the customer. The customer was also full of bull because there would be enough pork remnants to contaminate his food. And if he was a an orthodox Jew, the griddle could NEVER be Kosher

I guess that's why he asked them to clean the part of the griddle his food would be prepared on first. I assume that "they" encounter this often, which I guess is why he asked them to clean it first. I also don't think the Deli owner was abusive at all. The customer was the one who was all agitated and the owner has a business to run, so his being firm is to be expected in my opinion.

They should have told Towelie to go patronize another establishment and no, we're not putting in a footbath.

You don't go into a titty bar and then claim to be offended by bare breasts. 017
