would know the states, provinces , territories of their own nation, or is that not important?

I've spoken to some Americans who thought New Mexico was a country and they didn't know that Hawaii was a state, those two places could secede from the union and these people would not even realize they were gone.

Very sad , IMO

I don't know if all Russians or Chinese for example, would know all their countries territories , maybe they wouldn't , maybe they would, I'll have to investigate that and get back to you.

It's very important to be informed period but as for me to assume(hope) people know the info I really have given up on that.

Yeah by what I have seen too many people really think we either have 49 states or 51 states here in the good ol USA.

I think Americans should know that it's not necessary to get a passport when traveling to New Mexico or Hawaii, I guess if we ever had a president from those two states, some people will think our government was invaded and overthrown by the evil, war-mongering Hawaiians on a surf board I no less.
