In August, 1971, Richard Nixon imposed a wage and price freeze to control the unacceptably high inflation which was above 4%. It was intended to be on for 90 days, but continued for about 1,000.

Notice there wasn't a SALARY AND PROFIT control which would mostly affect Republicans.
