A guy is running late getting home for work for wedding anniversary dinner. Does he stop for flowers and thus show up as much as 20 minutes late or does he show up on time empty-handed. Voted : Woman says: show up on time without the flowers.
If you going to show up at all, don't do it with something perishable! That screams of last minute, didn't take the time to put any thought into it until the ast minute AND in a weeks there will be nothing to show for it. Flowers are not a bad gift, but they should never be the only gift. They should always be the compliment to another more permanent gift....unless the relationship is not intended to be long term.

Same answer for any anniversary.

And use his cell phone to let her know he had to work late and he'll be home post haste.

If he were to show up on time with nothing, that would be kind of an insujlt. It would be like saying to his wife, "You are so irrational about me being where you want me to be when you want me to be there, see what you forced me do? Now you don't get any flowers at all. And it's all your fault."

Holy cow! You have to bring her a present! No question about it. Unless you had done something really special for her, to show up empty handed would be wrong, in my opinion. If you're late, but have some token of your love for your wife, I bet she would understand completely.

Also, Donny_Honey_Cakes is right in my opinion. Flowers are great, but they should be in addition to a much more meaningful and special gift. I don't know what the gift would be, but I guess it all depends on the anniversary. Like a Firt anniversary is much more meaningful than a 4th anniversary or some other not so meaningful milestone.

What would be very cool is if you came home with flowers and tied to one of the Rose stems was a diamond ring or something like that.
