I don't think I would. I know I probably should, but, honestly, I've seen people doing it and at least where I live, it's best to not get involved in something like that. If it was a physical crime or something I would.

I had just such an experience, which I hope I'll remember to post when I have more time. Gotta fly in about five.

when I was younger, rI used to take a few chocolates and things..maybe books too, but the fun part was knowing I could get away with it..and I know that one woman did see me do it, and never report me.In hindsight, it was very stupid, wasn't worth getting caught

Okay, my promised tale...

Back in Christmas of '94 (I believe), when I was in the employ of Soulless Evil, Inc, I decided to splurge on gifts for my family, using my company credit card to make purchases at the flagship store downtown. (For the curious, the name of the place is M__y's)

Whatever, the instant I walked in, I picked up My Very Own Private Security Escort, apparently afraid that the Evil Man of Color was going to abscond with valuable merchandise. I decided not to get mad, just do my shopping and leave without raising any flags.

As I shopped, I saw a man shoplifting, stuffing clothes at a point near the entrance where it would be easy for him to take the stuff without paying for it and bypassing the security scanners. I had to lead my Escort down to the point where the merchandise was being held, then waited to file a report. When asked to give my name, I did so, along with my company ID#.

Got a write-up in the newsletter for it. :P

You're a bigger man than I for putting up with that, truth. That's ridiculous.

To answer your question larry, I honestly don't know. I'm all for doing what is good and just, but I just don't think I would care enough to report his activities.

Can anyone who said yes tell us the reason why?

F*cked if I'm going out of my way to help a greedy corporation who probably only pay minimum wage. The store staff most likely steal more stuff than shoplifters.

It's more understandble if the someone grassing them up worked at the place in question, but otherwise it's none of their business.

Plus for all I know they could just be trying to feed their kids.

Depends on what they are stealing and their age.
If it's a person needing food I would tell them not to do it anymore and if I can give them a few bucks.
If it's a kid I would tell them not to be little sh*ts and find their parents. If their parents are promoting stealing then their asses are had.
Anyone else is turned in also.

I don't watch other people when I'm out shopping, but I doubt if I would get involved if I did see someone doing it, chances are, they'll get caught eventually... most stores have the electronic things or cameras to sense idiots trying to leave without paying...

Only if it's obvious that the perpetrator isn't in a financially desperate situation.

Shoplifting is a huge endeavor and costs us (you and me !) a lot of money. If it were 'your kid', would you not want him to learn a lesson ?
by Black_Lava on Fri Mar 07, 08 6:22am [+]

I doubt it costs us anything at all. Do you really think these places would reduce prices if there wasn't anybody shoplifting? I doubt it.

'If it were my kid' I'd hope that I'd taught him well enough not to do it. If he did, I'd be the one wanting to teach him a lesson. Getting arrested wouldn't do a kid much good in life. If I saw someone elses kid doing it I would tell them to put it back, an adult could do as they please as far as I'm concerned.

This country, in particular, is becoming a place where it's encouraged, on radio and tv, to shop thy neighbour. In my opinion it stinks, they should do their own dirty work instead of brainwashing the sheeple masses into being a nation of informers
by britvic55 on Fri Mar 07, 08 10:01am [+]

I don't think I would report either.

Look at this ballot number, isn't that cool?
Thanks Beelzebubba for the karma and pointing that out.
