WHAT DID JOHN KENNEDY MEAN?

[+] serious ballot by larrynelmira
ACTIVE Mon Mar 10, 08 - Tue Mar 10, 09

When he said

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"

It seems to me the only thing the government wants from us is paying taxes, perhaps fight a few wars and dying before we become a burden to the state.

That's pretty much it
I see it more as service to your country

Not in the sense of merely paying your taxes or wearing the uniform or such, but serving by volunteerism, giving of one's self to community.

More 'give' and less 'take'. Pay your own way and help others who cannot. Be a mentor. Use your income wisely. Cut back on all fuel consumption. Donot litter. 050

Give back, don't just expect privileges.
Remember, he was a big Peace Corps guy.

larry, NO. There may be a very, VERY few in the ranks inside the Beltway who believe that they're doing good woks for the betterment of the country, but it's far too few.

I believe the country should serve me. :) We certainly pay enough in taxes. More than enough.

People I know intimately pay about $45,000 in property taxes in Greenwich Connecticut each year. How much more does the nation want? :)
