will we still be able to put music, pictures and such on our user page?
One look at my public message page will give you a good reason why this shouldn't be on the front page. ANY user can post whatever crap they want there. A separate blog function would be nice but keep public messages where they are. I don't want to constantly have to check my messages to see what needs to be deleted or approved.
yes, to larrynelmira.

Voted : Yes, I blog me now!
A little change is good, from time to time.
Everyone knows I can't read. I am ok with a blog but I would strongly prefer you leave the option of whether to allow comments up to the user whose page it is. I don't want to have to read everyone's comment and decide whether it should be there. I also don't want to wade through spam and various attacks that people sometimes use. There's enough of it on ballots as is. BTW, I either brought up or supported a blog type function quite a long time ago on one of those "how to improve B&W" ballots.
Voted : No, I like the old way!
Seems like an unnecessary change. I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but what's wrong with the current design?
it's really the issue of where we want to take this site. if we want to keep it as a small place for few people, I can just let it sit and rot, much like how it's been for the last year. or if we want to expand and really get this website going, and possibly cash out big later (all those who put time into it) it's really one or the other.

Well then, as an interested citizen, could you please explain the advantage of the new design and how it will contribute to this site going to bigger and better places? I'm all for bringing in 1000000 new people, but I am not quite grasping how this proposed change is an improvement. Is it supposed to be more like.... and I hate to make such a lame analogy... but on Facebook they have the "wall" section. Is it supposed to be like that?
I am just talking about improvement in general. I am a big believer in a cooperative website. I am looking for not just users, but administrators and contributors, in programming, general look and feel and interfaces. I believe that some really great things can be accomplished by it. That's what I had in mind back in 2003.

for instance, you see what is going on here. You have maybe 5 psychopaths bringing down this site every other hour. what if instead of LCD(1) against the 5, 100 interested superusers against the 5? I am really interested in good prevailing over evil. I am an idealist. If we introduce 2-3 new features everyday, and get 10% increase in users everyday, dont' you think this site will be on par with some other successful sites? go on, negative as well as positive comments are welcome.

I absolutely think this site has the potential to be a huge hub for people. I'd love to offer advice and ideas, but I really don't know a damn thing about running a website. Firstly, it seems like most of those huge websites probably have several staffed programmers, and I don't know where that money comes from. I would assume from ad space and independent contributors, but again I have no clue how you attract these types of people or investors. As far as increasing the subscriber base, I assume the only way to do that is to just spread the word, and I don't know the best way to do that. Hell, I'll spend 15 minutes every day hitting up chat rooms and linking the website if you think that's a valid strategy.
" what if instead of LCD(1) against the 5, 100 interested superusers against the 5?" You do have people interested in stopping them. Lots of superusers. Unfortunately, the superuser functions that can stop things like that (Freeze, ban) weren't working when you allowed new user registration and I am not sure if they are even working now. So please don't say we aren't interested in stopping idiots like these people. Perhaps trusting people to do the right thing even when they don't always agree with you would be a good idea.
I am going to do put some time on this website (actually doing work rather than putting in ballots) this week. let's see what we can come up with.

by the way, they are working now. I am not the world's greatest programmer, and it takes me a few tries to get it right. I try to find people who can understand that to work with me.

Hmm, not sure how much use this is going to be. Speaking for myself, I almost never send or receive public messages.
I am thinking maybe I should just make it into 2 different ones that people can choose from.

I am open for change. Hey if it doesn't work you can always change it back. And for those that don't like it. Oh, well... They can always go somewhere else. It's not like this is the only website that's out on the world wide web, right?
AOL made changes in its system for the worse....Now there is no place to email someone at AOL..if there is, it is impossible to find. AOL do not even allow spellcheck on its messageboards.
