My answer is sadly NO. There may be a grand plan that we mere mortals can't comprehend, the after life may be the paradise promised, but as long as we live on this planet, all of us are at the mercy of the elements or some fool who decides to commit mass murder. The most devoted believers are not immunized to this happening , from school house shootings in Amish country, to Holocaust to bombs falling, tsunamis and other disasters natural or man made, God is not protecting anyone from that , if you survive the above, it's luck, plain and simple IMO. When people say " my neighbor didn't survive the tornado but if not for the grace of God, I did " what are they saying, that God thinks they are more important than the baby or the mother that was killed? Not trying to bash religion here, just stating what I observe happening and has been happening since the beginning of time, the earth is a roulette wheel and being in the right place at the right time is only thing that will save you from death.
