BARBED WIRING (ALSO KNOWN AS BOBBED,) THROUGH THE WOODS

[+] serious ballot by larrynelmira
ACTIVE Fri Mar 14, 08 - Sat Mar 14, 09

why do that?

Taking a nature walk I fell right into some barbed wiring strung between the trees, cut myself up pretty bad but don't worry, I'll survive.

If People want to protect their property , that's their choice I suppose, but damn, who expects to find barbed wiring deep in a dense forest, and what about the creatures? They must have an awful time maneuvering.

What's your opinion on this ?

By the way, no trespassing signs that I could find, were posted.

Watch where you are walking next time

COMMENTS:
Ugh. I know exactly what you mean, Larry. I've had countless pairs of pants ruined by barbed wire. It's especially fun when you're walking through the woods in the pitch black at 5 a.m. with a 50 pound pack and you trip on barbed wire and faceplant in the mud.

Also, and I kid you not, my uncle's old friend from back in little league had his schlong ripped off by barbed wire. Yes. Schlong. Ripped. Off.

Regarding animals, almost anything in the U.S. is small enough to fit underneath. Birds can fly over. Deer can jump an 8 foot fence at a standing start. I think humans are actually the only thing deterred by barbed wire.

P.S.- WTF is that picture?

^lol , I just wonder why it's there, cattle's not grazing in the woods, as you said doesn't keep wild animals out, if humans know it's there and really wanted , they can get over or around, so what's the purpose?

^ oh, the picture is just a creature of the forest. :)

Glad first off to hear that you're well!

And it would seem to me that, were there any vested interest to protect any property lines, signs would've been posted.

The ones who did this seems kind of stupid. They can't claim they did not know anyone would be there when the wire is there to keep the people they know will be there out. They need to have signs or something.

They could have just put up a wooden fence.

Was it old barbed wire, or new?

There's barbed wire fences all over the place around where I live in the woods. But when it was first fenced, the area was farm land that was largely composed of grazing pasture. Over a hundred years later, the pastures have turned to dense forrest and the fences are still there.

If it was newer fencing, some people use it for property boundry lines. It's harder to take down than signs, harder to miss than signs because of it's continuous line, doesn't wear off like paint on trees, and cheaper than other types of fencing while still letting wildlife pass through.

Sure, it's not going to keep anyone out. But there's an unwritten rule in rural areas... "if it's fenced and it doesn't belong to you, you don't belong behind it unless you've got permission."
