Dog Rides Comfortably in Sack on Running Board (June, 1936)

I really hope the reason that this is a drawing is that no one would actually strap their dog to the side of their car.

When you take your dog along for a ride, but prefer not having it inside the car, it can ride safely and comfortably in this sack, which is carried on the running board. The bottom of the sack is clamped to the running board and the top is fastened to the lower part of an open window with hooks, covered with small rubber tubing to prevent marring the car.

Did anybody ever hear of such a thing?

And What do you think?

I hope this thing made it to production.
Here boy, here boy, want to go for a ride?
This is great, where can I get one?
That's insane
It's a safety device

Well, it certainly gives a whole new meaning to dogs sticking their heads out of the window. ;)

The sound of the dog being ripped to shreds alerts the driver that he's too close to oncoming traffic.

Well by today's standards it is.

I think the dog would be fine at low speeds as long as it was secured correctly. The cars around that time period didn't move very fast anyway and there was nowhere near as much traffic.

I still wouldn't have bought/used such a thing though.

If the dog ain't good enough to ride in your car, leave the poor thing home. What a frick frackin' goofus doofus invention. Not as bad however, as the Mom I saw driving in regular traffic two days ago with her kid on a skate board, holding on to the door.
