In addition to the Retirment home, this is the navy building in question. It is located in San Diego.

In addition to the Retirment home picture indicated above, this is the picture of the Naval building in San Diego:
I don't think it's intentional
One building, okay, it's a mistake. But the Naval building too? And, there are supposedly many more. I don't know.
It is hard to dismiss them all as "unintentional".
It still looks very much like a swastika.
maybe it's just a good layout for a building, looks like they have cute little court yards throughout, especially the retirement building that would be nice to have. But who knows.
From what I've read, it was a symbolic message meant to be seen from high above the earth and I guess there are more in Europe too. But, I havent't seen those pictures.
You could be right Larry. Maybe it was just a good design.
Swastikas are cool, and they've been around for thousands of years. It's a shame they were usurped by the Nazis. But in answer to the question, I fail to see how someone could design a swastika-shaped building by accident..!
Voted : It is intentional
It's hard to see how the architect could have failed to notice the resemblance.
Voted : It is unintentional'
Here's to *hoping*. But then, as I've said before, I have a distant Irish cousin named Murphy. Really, I do.
Voted : Intentional but for other reasons
I think the arms on these swastika designs coil opposite to the Nazi swastikas. I have not Googled this, but from what I have read, the swastika is a Native American symbol. When the arms coil right, as above, it symbolizes life, and when the arms coil left, as in the Nazi swastika, it means death. It may have been intentional just because the design works well for communal buildings. If they wanted to send a message of hate to the sky, I think the arms would be coiling to the left, all IMO, of course. Maybe some buildings do have the arms coiling left. I still think it is intentional but not necesaily to symbolize hatred.
I googled the Nazi Swasika and it's the same as the buildings. I would post the picture, but not sure if we're supposed to. If you google images of Nazi Swastika, it's identical to the 2 buildings. Yikes!
The buildings definitely go the same direction as National Socialist (Nazi) swastikas. I have a book on the subject with a photo of Nazi girls smiling and waving their swastikas.

It's a space saving design that, like a cross or plus sign shape, is not uncommonly used in various public housing, apartments, and even airports.
Jesus, who writes this bullshit? The swastika is NOT Native American (although there examples of its use by American Indian tribes). It actually dates back to neolithic times & was probably first used on the Indian subcontinent.
Voted : It's a plus-sign doing a cartwheel
Oy vey! Charge anyone involved with a hate crime. All fines incurred should go right into Foxman's overseas account.
