Let me sing among those stars

The ultimate in peaceful final resting places may now be within reach as a US company is offering a burial service on the Moon.
Texas-based Celestis has already sent the remains of 100 people into Earth orbit, but now claims it will drop ashes on to the lunar surface.

The company says it is negotiating with commercial firms who are planning missions to the Moon. These may occur in the next two or three years and the ashes would be carried on board as cargo.

The first person to be laid to rest using this service will be Mareta West, the geologist who picked the site for the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing. She died in 1998.

Celestis is paying for West's final trip, but will offer the service to the public for a $12,500 fee.

Celestis president Chan Tysor said this is "not completely out of line with what people might spend on a traditional funeral".

What's your opinion on this service and would you want your final resting place to be on the moon?

Sure why not

I'd like there to be a place where my family and friends could visit if I passed. This is kinda weird, imo. Looks like we're about 2 steps from hauling our nuclear waste to the moon.

I'd settle for having my ashes spread there.

By that logic I can look at a picture of a cemetery in Wisconsin and feel close to my grandpa. Granted, I'm not the type of guy to get anything from visiting a grave in the first place... I believed it was more of a spiritual connection of being at someone's resting place.

^ I'm not saying sending remains to the moon is a good or bad thing, I haven't made up my mind about that, but I do believe looking at the moon and knowing a loved one is laid to rest there would be more of a spiritual thing (FOR ME )than looking at a picture of a cemetery

For some reason,I do not think it is a good idea to introduce biological remains in great quantity into an unknown quantity.

I don't think it is legal. There are treaties involved. I don't think that a private company can just start dumping ashes on the moon so some greedy ass company can make money off some overly vain customers. All to ruin a pristine place. What a travesty.

^ How could you say someone's ashes would ruin a pristine place? My grandad will be spinnining in his urn.
