When I was little, I asked my Mom and Dad, if, when they died, they would please come to me in dreams rather than as ghosts. (I scare VERY easy.) They promised me that when they died and they wanted to visit, they would come to me in dreams (this is called a "visitation"). I have had several visitations from my mom and one from my dad. I have had dreams of them also, but the visitations are different. In dreams, they are just doing ordinary things they did when they were alive like I remember them, but they do not interact with me. It’s just like memories. But in visitations, they are addressing me specifically, telling me what it is like to die, telling me they remember me, and that it is not time for me to leave. In a visitation, Mom told me that when you die, immediately above you there is a rip in the fabric that separates the two worlds. All your blood relatives that have gone before you reach through the opening and pull you through. It is like being born. Once, I was feeling very unhappy and I prayed to my dad and told him I needed to see him. That very night, in a visitation, I went to my front door and my dad was sitting in a chair outside. He sat me down on his knee, rocked me and called me the special name he called me when I was very little. He told me he was alive but existing somewhere else and that he could not come into the house. I woke up feeling refreshed and very loved. So, yes I have seen ghosts, but as visitations rather than as apparitions.
^ BOOO!
I'm not wanting to piss on anyone's parade here, but imo classing seeing dead loved ones in a dream as being 'visited' is kinda weak. If I wanted to see aliens, and ate enough cheese before bedtime, I'm sure I'd eventually be 'visited' by ET dancing around my head, hand in hand, with the looney tunes Marvin the Martian. 'I have had several visitations from my mom and one from my dad' That's one visitation more than I ever had from my dad, in real life. :o(
I thought I did but thinking back, I believe it was my imagination

I haven't seen any, but I've smelled things that were used by certain people. Stuff like tobaccos, powder, perfume, grease, even fishy smelling river water at times. All just out of the blue, when there was no normal reason for me to smell those things. I guess you could call that a possible visitation. My sister saw the apparition of a man in her house one time. She didn't recognize him, but after describing him to my dad, he said it sounded like his dad, our grandfather that we never knew.

Had a prolonged conversation with her in an area mall some years back.
britvic, what you say has fullm merit and reason behind it. Against it, I only wish that I could somehow allow you the full experience of my own encounter.

I do not, and will never, believe in ghosts. Even if I saw one, I would dismiss it as a hallucination. Often, people like to claim to have seen ghosts and think that Scooby Doo is a better explanation than a hallucination. This I cannot accept. I have had a very similar experience to forgetmenot. A very close uncle and hunting buddy died a few months ago and the same night I had a dream where he honest to God said to me, "Don't worry, I'll be around." It was very intense because I woke up right afterwards feeling like I had just been hanging out with him for one last time. However, I consider it no different than any other dream. But because I was at a heightened emotional state at the time, it was more intense.
