By the time I'm finished paying it off, I would have paid three times the cost of the house.

We purchased the land from my inlaws (who used to live on part of it) after they sold their place. Then built the house ourselves over time.

^that's my dream.

how long did it take you to build the place?
by LCD on Tue Apr 01, 08 2:01pm [+]

The house itself almost a year until it was livable. We finished the interior work (cabinets, drywall, etc...), the plumbing, and electricity while living in it.

I think it cost a total of just under 10,000 to build if I remember right. We used logs from an old smokehouse and barn that was on the inlaw's property for the framework, and windows from an old house that they had torn down. The rest, we just built as we bought and took our time since we had another place to live. It didn't take long to get tired of the city though, so we moved into it early and more or less camped out with no electricity or plumbing while we finished it.
