Voted : No Affection, Not Interested, Not Involved
Nothing. I tell people that I grew up without a mom.

I think she compensated for my dad being a callous and disinterested bastard by trying to be overly involved with the kids. Unfortunately, I was never the type of kid that wanted attention.
Voted : Involved but not affectionate and barely interested
Involved by necessity, not affectionate and interested only when it made her look good - and unfortunately when she thought I made her look bad. I was lucky however to have kind women in my life who were mother figures for me.

That goes for my father as well. They still are this way. Sure they will help with fun stuff but only if it keeps someone doing their sh^t for them.

In words of one syllable or less, "like sh*t". She had post-partum depression, which I can't or don't fault her for at all. However, I don't think it's supposed to last for 43 years...
Christ, some of you grew up in families that sound terrible! And this explains a lot about Grapost

I'm also very sorry to hear that Grapost. :( That's very sad. I do have friends who are in family's like that. Much of the time their parent's weren't home and when they were, they were wraped up in their own lives. I guess we're very fortunate. There are alot of kids in my family too, but both my parent's are very warm and attentive. Some people teased me for having such involved parent's, but I'd rather have it that way than not. I guess my Mom is a bit more demonstrative with love, but just in a different way. We're very close and I like it that way.
Forgive me for intruding, Grapost, but I think you would benefit from having a girfriend--if you don't already have one.
My Mom died when I was young, but I remember she was an IBM type person. Black suit, attache case. She reminded me of Liltih from Frasier. I'm still glad she was my Mom. So what if she wasn't affectionate? That was just her. And everybody has flaws. Thank you, though, for sharing. Believe it or not, I think most of us here do care about YOU. Grapost.
