As for the Jell-O salad with marshmallows... it's made here in Texas too and I despise it. Actually it's one of the popular 'funeral foods' along with potato salad and green bean casserole.
I don't know, but they need to teach one here. People will spin all over the place after it's only been sleeting for 5 minutes. lol We don't get the harsh winters though and aren't used to it, so it's expected.
