TEXAS MAYOR CAMPAIGNING HARD...FOR HIS OPPONENT [+] ballot by UncleRandy ACTIVE Sun Apr 20, 08 - Fri Jan 14, 11 Like many candidates across the country this election year, Westlake Hills, Texas, Mayor Mark Urdahl has been hitting the campaign trail hard, going door to door to tell his constituents to get out and vote. For his opponent! Urdahl says he had decided not to run for reelection in the small central Texas town, but when he tried to have his name removed from the ballot, his request was denied by the Texas Secretary of State’s office. So he is campaigning for his opponent, Dave Claunch. Neither Claunch nor the other man on the ballot, Dwight Thompson, think Urdahl's efforts to get off the ballot will have a major impact on the race. “This is just another dimension to life in Westlake Hills,” says Claunch. Urdahl will remain on the May ballot despite his last-minute request by e-mail last week to be removed, City Administrator Robert Wood said. Urdahl told Wood of his intention to withdraw from the mayoral race, which has two other candidates, during a late afternoon phone call March 18, the deadline to withdraw, the administrator said. Urdahl then e-mailed Wood and City Secretary Janet Rogers asking that his name be taken off the ballot. Is this really dumb, or what? What if he wins?
