When I was buying a Diet Coke in Florida a while ago, the clerk said "You're going to disappear" to me in a friendly ribbing manner. I've lived up north all my life, and I've never heard "disappear" to mean anything other than to leave suddenly, to vanish, or for something to be taken away suddenly. None of these made sense in this context, so I figured it must be a Southern expression.

It means the same thing it does up north, the guy was just a wacko.
To "disappear" also has this meaning down south

erm i think he was taking the piss mate. As in " diet drink ". Poking fun at your weight. if you drink to much you'll disappear.

^ Yep, that's the one. It's an expression I've heard used here too. It's usually used when someone thin states that they're on a diet etc. "Yeah, lose any more weight and you're gonna disappear"

It means because you are drinking diet coke, you will get so thin you will disappear. Thatg's my guess. I have had people say that to me when they see me eat diet snacks.
