Children's Book on Pot - HILARIOUSLY EDUCATIONAL!

A children's book attempting to teach children about the nature of marijuana has been released. The book, It's Just a Plant, is not being widely accepted by the public because of it's questionable approach in educating children about marijuana.

Here is the author's description of the book...
"It's Just a Plant is an illustrated children's book about marijuana. It follows the journey of a young girl as she learns about the plant from a diverse cast of characters including her parents, a local farmer, a doctor, and a police officer.
Marijuana can be difficult to talk about.
Many parents have tried marijuana, some still use it. Neither feel great about disclosing such histories (many duck the question), for fear that telling their kids might encourage them to experiment on their own.
Unfortunately, most "drug facts" that children learn in school are more frightening than educational, blaming pot for everything from teenage pregnancy to terrorism. A child's first awareness of drugs should come from a better source.
It's Just a Plant is a book for parents who want to educate their children about the complexities of pot in a thoughtful, fact-oriented manner."

In true children's book fashion, the book has bright pictures and a simple story.
But in this story, children won't fighting a dragon... they'll be chasing the dragon.

I have mixed feelings about this. I guess depending on where you live and what your child faced with from school and the neighborhood.
To me the book is geared for someone way too young too understand.

What do you think?

The book should not be used as a teaching tool.
The book is a great idea, I have to go get a copy.
If mom and dad smoke pot, most likely the kids will too.
Just say no.
We need to tell kids the truth about drugs, and not scare them with lies.

I think it's great in that it tells kids the truth. Kids are much smarter than we give them credit for, and they know when they are being lied to. When they know they are being lied to, they will see the legitimate dangers about drugs as "more lies."

It's opening a can of peas. I read every review on this book I could find but did not
read the book for myself. It got good reviews but I have reservations. The kid-oriented nature of the book might to make marijuana seem kid-oriented as well. I think the book might get some kids to experiment with something "innocnet enough to be a kid's book" who might not otherwise do it. It does bring the concept of marijuana in an eay to digest form into the nursery. The worst part is the title. That alone would tell kids it's not really all that bad, regardless of the admonishments the book has against it.

for many drugs, they should be neither "glorified" nor "villified" but since we have a drug culture surrounding our children, we should tell them the truth, especially the ramifications of using illegal substances...

I think this book will be useful in homes where the parents do smoke pot.
I'm not talking about irresponsible people who sit around all day smoking weed in front of their kids, just the normal moms and dads who work, raise their kids and pay their bills. After the kids go to bed, there's nothing wrong with smoking a joint. Why is that any different from those who drink after work in front of their kids?

This book helps to explain to kids why people smoke it and why it's illegal (which it shouldn't be.)
