WHY WAS IT EVER SAID IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEN APOLOGIZE FOR SAYING IT?

NEW YORK - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday that she shouldn't have suggested in a newspaper interview that Barack Obama was having trouble winning over "hardworking ... white Americans."

Told that a top black supporter, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., had called the remark "the dumbest thing you could have possibly said," Clinton said "Well, he's probably right."

She faces a more than $20 million debt. Clinton owed $10 million at the end of March, has made loans to her campaign totaling of $11.4 million thus far and will more than likely end the primary season significantly in the red.

Suppose Obama made the same comment regarding hard working Black Americans, would the reaction had been different? and what was really behind the motivation for Hillary to make such a comment?

Had Obama made the same comment, there would have more of a backlash.
I think the backlash would have been equally the same.
It was more politically motivated than racially.
When Hillary made the comment, she was appealing to the White voters.
I don't really believe Hillary comment was racially motivated.
The comment was typical Hillary/Republican tactics, divide and conquer.

COMMENTS:
Obama made a very instulting anti-white comment and it was glossed over.

^ and that comment was what exactly? Do elaborate...

Voted : The comment was typical Hillary/Republican tactics, divide and conquer.
She was trying to divide the races, get Obama to give a bad response, and cash in on the white vote. She's showing her desperation.

And while someone may say "Well, she won every racial catagory in West Virginia", that doesn't matter. WV is one state, late in the race. Obama leads Clinton in all catagories: Money, Popular Vote, Delegates, Superdelegates, and electability. Hillary Clinton should give up already.

forgetmenot, who glossed his comments? The media certainly did not. And if his race and bitter comments were as bad the media suggested, he wouldn't be doing as well as he is right now and he wouldn't be gaining in delegates.

I'm not an Obama supporter and I definately will not vote for him in November, but Hillary and her supporters are being unreasonable right now. It seems like she wants to sabotage Obama's November race so that McCain wins and she has a chance to run again in 2012. But it won't work, because it looks like Obama will win in November, run again in 2012, and whether he wins or loses in 2012, that won't matter because Hillary won't be able to run.

Voted : Had Obama made the same comment, there would have more of a backlash.
yeah, that was really dumb thing to say especially considering that a black man didn't make it an issue throughout his campaign.

let's face it, she is grasping at straws, and throwing anything and everything in order to win - she looks less and less presidential everyday.

suppose she does win the nomination, would that mean she expects the taxpayers/democratic party to "pay her back" for millions she "loaned her campaign"?

I never understood that. People like Steve Forbes ran for President, they spent their own money, period. they didn't "loan their campaign" their own money. I wonder why she's using that particular semantics.

maybe she will levy a special tax to pay for her campaign MAG_rofl

Hard working Americans come in all Colors.

And even Hillary has during this campaign..
Bust Her Ass, to try to get your vote. I guess that was her problem...

Following is the insulting comment he made. Maybe it was glossed over because it "only" insultd women, not men. I heard his comment, and was stunned by it. But I am quoting this.

"Obama called his grandmother, a 'typical white women' in reference to something she did years ago, that he considered racist.

Obama insulted the 'typical white woman' and no one seems to care. that he did. He basically called them racist. If a famous celebrity had said it, there would be hell to pay, but somehow Obama gets away with insulting the "typical white woman." I don't get it. Someone please explain to me how it is not only offensive, presumptive, and racist on his part.

The 'typical white woman' I know is married or divorced, raising kids, working hard at a job, and trying to find her place in the world. Why didn't Obama talk about that in his speech? Because that would be telling the truth, and I think he is all about the MOUTH, and nothing else.

So, you 'typical white women' who vote for Obama are voting for the man who thinks you are racist.

Happy voting.

^ First of all, I follow Obama very closely and I never heard him make such a statement (not to say he did not, however, I have not heard those words come out of his mouth)

Secondly, Obama explained in great detail how his grandmother would use racial slurrs against those whom look like himself (imagine sitting there and having to endure those kinds of comments from a person who is suppose to love you unconditionally...He could have been quite bitter from the experience, however, he doesn't appear to be)...

Thirdly, during the time Obama was a child, he witnessed cruel and racist comments and mistreatment of others who looked like himself by others who looked like his grandmother...I would venture to say that many of the WHITE women in his environment was being TYPICAL displaying their racist views/comments at that time/era...

So, to imply (if he made this comment) that he was implicating all WHITE women that he had not come in contact with is presumptuous on your part to say the least...

You, myself and others who have not experienced what he and other who look like him, can not know how it must feel to be label in a negative light not only by so call love ones, however, by society as a whole...

Racism creates hatred in some of those who have/are being/been treated less than human...That is why I can understand a person like Rev. wright, he like others are sick and tired of not only the continuing racist practices by many of the members of the majority but also, the denial by many of those members that Rev Wright and others are racist themselves to make the comments he made...

I like to know why you deem Obama's alleged comment was inappropriate when he was the one treated less than a human being by his WHITE grandmother?

It is 2008, and people are still using the race BS, i.e., Hillary Clinton without missing a step...So to find fault in Obama for stating his experiences with racism in his own family is illogical and unfounded...

WHITE women have not had it no where near as difficult as BLACK women, that I surely will bet the farm on...The very idea that WHITE women believe it is their time to shine in the sun (becoming President) is like the telling those BLACK women who were cleaning those WHITE women homes, they missed a spot...

Its all about one own life experiences, and when people dismiss the severity of those experiences (especially members of the majority)people tend to get resentful and the Rev Wright is once again expelled from their soul for all the world to witness the ugliest affects of racism, people are just tired, enough is enough already...
