Voted : It's a good idea
It's not a matter of should there be, it's a matter of when it will be. Most of the G7 (8 if you'd like) have already put plans in place. In stages, there will be an elemination of most currencies and we'll have: the Euro, the Dollar, the Yen, the Pound, the Yuan (sort the main players in place today). Once the NAU comes into being (which it will and there is no question of that), the new Dollar will be the Amero (or something along those lines) for all of South, Central and North America. The NAU will meld into one giant block with South America joining. The Euro will be for the EU. The Yen may be replaced with an Asian currency, etc. Probably all of Asia will use the Yuan (Renminbi). Eventually, there will be just one and that's most likely planned to be the reality in 30 years...max. Then no hard currency at all.

It's a bad idea. A world currency would probably be the result of a world government or "unions" like the EU and AU. An American Union would be bad for the United States because it would challege the sovereignty of America and it would result in millions of hispanic people moving to the United States.
America liked the way Canada's money looked for so long. It decided to make new money in the style of those like the neighbors to the north.
