Voted : It happens in cycles
This happens in 100+ year cycles. We're just getting into the thick of one. Scientists have bee predicting this for some time.

^ True, I believe. Or at least close to a hundred years.

I write up weekly history piece for a project that I do, so I'm all the time reading about past tornadoes, earthquakes, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, etc... Just a few days ago even was the 81st anniversary of a 8.3 earthquake in China that killed about 200,000 people. March was also the 83rd anniversary of the tri-state tornado that killed 695 people in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. The outbreak that it was a part of killed a total of 747.

A pissed of Mother Nature is definitely not anything new.
