Is being intelligent and well-spoken the same as being elitist? I thought that being elitist was more like being privileged and condescending, and acting as if you're better than everyone else.

Elitism is snobbery confused with intalligence.

Just because your inteligent doesn't mean you know better than everyone else. In fact it means the exact opposite. Any intelligent person, for example, would consider elitism as a foolish conceit. But would be intelligent enough to know that telling this to an elitist moron would just cause a fight.
