IS IT OKAY TO TURN A HOMELESS PERSON AWAY FROM STORE RESTROOMS?

[+] serious ballot by larrynelmira

I was standing in the checkout line the other day and this person who looked homeless headed for for the restrooms, couple store employees walked up to him, I couldn't hear what was being said, but the person left the store without using facilities, so I'm guessing they told him to leave.

Do you think it was wrong of the store to turn this man away or do they have the right , I didn't see a sign that said for customers only.

There have been times when I had to go so badly, I've stopped in stores and restaurants to relieve myself without making a purchase, I was never told to leave.

What you think, if you were owner of store or restaurant , would you refuse to allow homeless people to relieve themselves?

I would allow
I would not allow
I would put a porta-potty outside for them to use

When I worked at a shoe store, I was told not to allow anyone to use the rest room. I didn't have the heart to do that.

Common decency dictates it.

...As long as there were no people who may have "abused" the priviledge ("moved into the restroom" or using it to do drugs) and were causing customers to shy away...

I am not homeless and I dress nicely, and I, myself, have been turned away a few times. I would let them use the facilites.

Like Mojo said, it's just simple common decency.

I did go in a store one time and ask if my young son (about 4 or 5) at the time)could use the bathroom. They told me vaguely where it was and then we both headed for it when the cashier said that only one of us could go. I told my son to go on and I'll wait for him. The poor boy comes back with his hands covering his crotch telling me that he's got to go bad but couldnt find it because the lights were off. I looked at the cashier, set my keys, wallet, and drivers license on the counter and told her "Here's a deposit in case we rob you blind while we're back there. Call the cops if you think it's appropriate, but I'm carrying my son to the restroom." She looked shocked and after we both come back out of the restroom, I grabbed my stuff off the counter, said "thank you" and left. Not a word from out of her. And I never went back to that store again.

I can understand them not wanting two adults going back there at the same time, but a woman and a young child? Get some freaking common sense.

"Do unto others..."

A shame that so few actually know of the concept.

Either you let them do their business in the restroom or else you'll find it elsewhere in the store.

mainly because I wouldn't want them to pee on the side of the building :_)
