CAN WE BLAME EVERYTHING ON CULTURE

or religious beliefs and excuse the actions as simply "they don't know anybody"

I made a ballot recently about some people saying it's okay for governments to execute gays, many of those people were from Saudi Arabia, as we know, the press is censored there, the Quran is taken literally,
(as some Christians do with the Bible)
I have to add that of course, even though it wouldnt' had been necessary if this ballot was directed at Christians only.

For the purpose of this ballot and those who I speak about in my other ballot , can I blame those Saudi's for their feelings or blame it on culture and lack of freedom and yes even Islam for there feelings toward Homosexuals, chalk it off as they don't know any better, remain friends but try to convince them that IMO it dosent' matter what a persons sexual orientation is?

Yes, blame the culture and religion , try to change minds
No, they have minds of their own, no matter what their religion teaches

He who makes excuses has only himself to blame.

I read that somewhere.

I also wonder though how many are only saying this because of the censorship, they don't know if their words are being monitored

It's their culture and beliefs and you will never change their minds. You'll save all of you alot grief if you just let them be. But I would kind of not be that close to them anymore because their hatreds will affect you either negatively or positively. Both cause pain.

^ yeah, I think I'm desperately trying to find excuses for their feelings and remain friends, but it's not going to be possible. :(

They believe the way that they do because of their culture and religion. But because it's so deeply ingrained in them, trying to change minds can cause a great deal of trouble.

They are, in effect, brainwashed. And about the only way to reverse it is more brainwashing. Unless you're dealing with someone who is able to see outside the box that they've been raised and taught in, I don't that think telling them what's wrong with their belief is going to do much good.
