Milli Vanilli were elected to receive a Grammy if that counts. Can you name an African country that has elected an Asian leader?
An African country that has elected an Asian leader? Is there a high population of Asians living in Afria then? That also happened to run for elected office of course.

Western Europe has never elected a black head of government, but then again, neither has the USA (for the time being). The fact that the United States has a genuine runner for the presidency is a clear indication that its electorate are more likely to vote for a black candidate than their British counterparts.

Absolutely how I see the issue. The statement made in another discussion that we in the UK are more likely to elect a non White person struck me because I could not rightly think of one European country that had done so. There are high ranking members in governments in Europe who are non White to be sure but also there are also many in the states. Obviously Barak Obama is himself Black and he is a Senator.

The Wise Man on the top floor makes a valid point.
May I ask what that wise point is? I feel stupid just for asking, but can't figure out what pearls of wisdom I must be missing.

I think I may have raised the question, on the US and its likelihood of electing a black president. I also would doubt they would have voted for a woman, if that means anything. The point was making is that Europe are a more inclusive society, that isn't to say we do not have race issues, but when it comes to elections, we would not make the race of the candidate an issue
Mate, a more inclusive society? I have to totally disagree. Unless you have not been following the news we're having massive problems with race relations all across Europe. The states is known to be much more accepting of diversity of culture and race. You can't be unaware of that fact. We're years behind in terms of our openness. You may want to have a look at the news for a reality check on the situation in the UK, France, Denmark and Switzerland to name a few. Your statement was that we in the UK would be more apt to elect a non white person and that's just bollocks. And just who is making race the issue? The regular folk or the news media outlets. A woman was running and her gender was dicsussed at length. I think it's a bit unrealistic to say it wouldn't be in a national election. Age is also mentioned. Sorry mate but I think you might want to have a look at reality.
For more information you can do a web search. I can't believe you're unaware of the issue with the Swiss. Try this article. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/22/magazine/22wwln-lede-t.html?ref=magazine
It is not my experience that Europe is a closed society. I live in London and have every race living within a stones throw of me.
If it's not your experience perhaps you're white? Try not being so white then mate. Please tell me that you're not equating a diverse population with inclusion. How can you say we're a more inclusive society when America is known as the melting pot of the world? Most major metro areas are diverse and that still does not make it inclusive. There's every race living in Paris too mate and in New York and in Rome. Means nothing. I'm a classified racial minority and I'd like to tell you that Europe is not more inclusive.
Can you name a non-white country that has elected a white leader?
