We need to be proactive and NEVER procrastinate. If it is not our own nation or our own Earth that establishes strongholds at least in our own galalxy, someone else will, and we will pay dearly.

Yes. A lot of the technologies that we use today came from earlier versions that were initially created for their use in space. Not to mention the fact that confining our interests to just home sweet home would severely put a damper on the spirit of learning and exploration.

I'm a big fan of space exploration but, in my encroaching old age, I've come to believe that we would be better served by exploring the oceans.

It is essential, we must always reach for the stars.

We seem intent on harming this planet as much as we can and odds are we'll need some place to flee to.
It is my position that RIGHT NOW the biggest challenge for our nation (USA) is energy independence. To avoid another world war we have to make it the Number 1 Goal for a country to achieve. This is exactly the same challenge we faced with space exploration in the 1960's. The country united to accomplished this goal. I would like to see the funding for space exploration diverted to a national goal of achieving energy independence. If the same Patriotic Fervor and funing is applied as it was for the Space Race, then it would within a reach in the near future. Space exploration can wait, Our need for energy independence can't. The future of our country, our economy, our lifestyle, and with war, our very existence is threatened the longer we wait.
