Voted : Yes.
But not fun stuff. There are garment conventions for clothing retailers and shoe conventions for shoe stores and appliance conventions for sad Maytag repairmen. And food conventions for restaurant owners, and health conventions for holistic doctors. Where I work is absolutely across the street from a major convention site (Sands Convention Center), and every day on the way to work I drive by the front of it and see some new convention advertised.

There are several small ones hither and yn and one big one, DragonCon. I normally avoid them like the plague, but I'm supposed to sit on a panel at one this year, discussing comics.
