Voted : I try to ignore it
After all, the word is based on ignorance. If someone wants to use it, I guess they're showing their true colors (Hey! There's a pun!). You want offensive? Try naming a snack treat after a racial slur.
Voted : I Agree
As much as that scares the crap out of me to admit... As I watched what I *could* of that sickening exchange, I was looking at Whoopi and Sherri, losing respect for both of them with every word. I wanted to say- no, *scream* at those two stupid people (I won't dignify them by calling them women)- something that a White friend of mine once told me, that the N-word meant, in an now-arcane definition, a person who has sex with animals. As a man carrying some Black in his DNA, 'd like to suggest this. Retire the word altogether. Keeping it alive can only initiate a cycle of hate breeding hate. But what do I know? I'm certifiable. 5+5 on this, Grapost.
Beelz, these days, if you were to come Down South and use that word to a White man, you'd most likely get laughed at, and a free drink. Call them a redneck, though, and have someone in the car, ready to drive. FAST.
^^ One thing I never could understand... How can one have a red neck and also a mullet?
Voted : They think it's funny and OK to say it.. but nobody else is supposed to..!
They use it among themselves in a friendly way, like camaraderie.. But they probably think it must be some kind of insult if used by others.. So it's become a private word. meaning something like 'one of us'.. Personally I hardly ever use the N-i-g-g-e-r-Word, especially not in public, instead I prefer black or negro or sometimes colored.. 'Colored' used to be a very respectable word, it replaced the harsh N-word and had definite historical precedances.. Even the N-word once had no especial negative connotations.. Words change, it's hard to say what the language will be like just 500 years from now..
"Words change, it's hard to say what the language will be like just 500 years from now.." by Time4Space That'd be fine if if people would leave language to change on its own, but language is being deliberately controlled by people who decide what's best for you. And it seems like some people are just rolling over and taking it. What words will be next? Are we all going to be walking round in 500 years without any language to truly be able to express ourselves with?
Beelz, they sell some plastic gizmo in most convenience stores hereabouts. When a redneck tans, they can lift up the back flap and let the sun shine in.
Voted : I have no idea Honky...
Maybe you should ask them...
